✦ Synopsis

A strong irreversible decrease of absorption in the fist electronic band has been obserwd when dilute aqueous solutions of thymine and adenine \ere irradiated by picosecond pulses of the fourth harmonic of Nd:kAG Iaser radiation. The quantum yield of the observed multiquantum photoreactions is several per cent.
