✦ Synopsis
The mass balance and phase equilibrium equations that describe the isothermal flash separation of a nonazeotropic system are investigated to determine the conditions under which multiple solutions are computed when a product mole fraction is specified. Necessary and sufficient conditions are established for multiple solutions to occur when a multicomponent mixture is separated.
