โฆ Synopsis
ATM-over-DSL is a promising access technology for real-time MPEG video. In this paper, we ยฎrst describe a conยฎguration of an ATMover-VDSL access network that can handle VBR video and ABR data calls. Then, we analyze a priority multiplexing strategy for video and data calls at the ATM-based DSL access multiplexor.
Using a Markov-modulated ยฏuid model for MPEG video calls we present a computationally efยฎcient ยฏuid analysis of cell loss for video and data trafยฎc at the multiplexor. We derive the output ยฏuid process of the video buffer and approximate it with a 2-state model. This 2-state model is used to analyze cell loss in the low-priority data buffer. We also obtain data cell loss by a ยฎrst-order approximation method that is commonly used in priority queues. Our results indicate that our 2-state approximation is fairly accurate while computationally efยฎcient compared to the full model. In addition, the results show that the commonly used ยฎrst-order approximation can be excessively inaccurate.

This paper considers packetized voice and video traffic incoming to an ATM multiplexer. Each voice and video source is approximated by a two-state Markov-modulated Poisson process (MMPP( 2)). We propose a method based on the asymptotic results of a renewal process to obtain the equivalent MMPP(2) pa
One of the most important properties in the ATM network is that the resource of the network, including buffer and bandwidth, can be flexibly managed according to different demands of various applications. The network bandwidth can be effectively allocated and utilized if the data volume of the arriv
## I n this paper, we present a new approach to modeling variable bit rate (VBR) coded video sources in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks. Unlike the existing methods which model the number of cells generated by the coder for a sequence of video frames, the new approach improves modeling a
