✦ Synopsis

Techniques arc described for the identification and separation of peaks of different multiplicity in heteronuclear twodimensional NJIR spectroscopy. The methods are applied to the two-dimensional t3C-' H shift correhtion spectrum of We reporr improvements to the established method of two-dimensional (2D) heteronuckar NMR correlation spectroscopy [ 1 --7J ~ making accessible multiplicity infomration which is normally suppressed for reasons of resolution and sensitivity in the conventiorml method_ The proposed modifications allow the inurulll septtmtion of 2D responses from methine, ntctltylenc and methyl groups respectively, and do not interfere with the attractive high sensitivity and good resohitioti of the conventional technique. 131 or DEPT [14-16]_ We propose instead modifications of the 2D shift correlation experiment which provide the estra information without degrading resolution or increasing complexity_

2D hrteronuclear correlation spectroscopy allows rlie cotistrtction of im experimental correlation map oi the SMR transition frequencies of two nuclear isotopes. for cssmple tltose of an abundant species, such as ' Ii. with those of a rare isotope, such as 13C. The esperimenlal parameters are usually arranged such that transfer only over one-bond couplings is effective and splittings llue to the heteronuclear
