✦ Synopsis

Clinical information

The patient, a 68-year-old woman, was in good health until the onset of her recent illness 6 months ago. One week before the radiologic imaging studies were performed, she suffered rapidly clinical deterioration, presenting with anemia and weakness. Physical examination was remarkable only for a mass in the right lobe of the thyroid gland mass and a mass in the left buttock. Computed tomography of the neck, chest, abdomen, and pelvis was performed. A mass in the right thyroid gland, lobe, an expansile mass of the left ilium, and an expansile mass of the posterior part of the T7 rib (Fig. 1-3) were noted. Additionally, a lytic lesion involving the body of T10 was identified (not shown).
