✦ Synopsis

Non-resonant multiphoton ionization of xenon clusters has revealed the same magic numbers as found in the case of electron impact ionization. Large dissociation rates are found for the trimer through pentamer ion, measured on a time scale of z lo-' s after ionization.

VOCl, is studied by resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization in the region 430 to 440 nm. Mass spectrometric detection reveals the production of both V+ and VO' with the molecular ion having the larger intensity. The V+ ion current spectrum shows sharp atomic resonance peaks while the VO+ spectrum

Neutral atoms and clusters desorbed from a solid germanium surface by ion bombardment are detected by laser postionization and time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Two different photoionization schemes are compared which are generally believed to be candidates for the 'soft' ionization of polyatomic sp
