The relative importance of the different possible fragmentation pathways in multiphoton ionization-fmgmentation is determined by a maxlmum entropy formalism. Absorption by fragment ions Is allowed for, and leads to si_grlfrcantly lower temperatures. Differences between electron impact and laser-induced mass spectra are possibly due to the absence of secondary absorption in the former.
