This book is primarily an introduction to the vast family of ceramic materials. The first part is devoted to the basics of ceramics and processes: raw materials, powders synthesis, shaping and sintering. It discusses traditional ceramics as well as βtechnicalβ ceramics β both oxide and non-oxide β w

β¦ Synopsis
The book summarizes the recent progress in ceramics research. Several novel concepts for materials selection and microstructural design are presented, as are experimental results that substantiate the ideas. These newly designed materials include multiphase ceramic composites of three phases with strengths of 1000 MPa and toughnessof 10 MPam0.5. They can be fabricated to mimic the macrostructure of wood and are machineable because of their novel microstructure.

In order to demonstrate how CFD can help scientists and engineers to better understand the fundamentals of engineering processes, a number of examples are shown and discussed. The paper covers (i) special aspects of continuous casting of steel including turbulence, motion and entrapment of non-metal
Nanostructure science and technology has become an identifiable, if very broad and multidisciplinary, field of research and emerging application in recent years. It is one of the most visible and growing research areas in materials science in its broadest sense. Nanostructured materials include atom
