β¦ Synopsis
The stratification phenomenon in microscopic foam films obtained from aqueous solutions of surfactant mixtures containing a large quantity of a solubilizing organic phase was studied. The P(h) isotherms of these films were measured over a wide range of thicknesses (h) and pressures (P). Several metastable states of the films were detected. Spontaneous (under constant capillary pressure P,) and forced (under various capillary pressures) stepwise thinning were observed to occur in one and the same single foam film. The role of stratified foam films in the stability of foams obtained from the same solutions is shown and the kinetics of establishing the equilibrium capillary pressure in the Plateau-Gibbs borders were investigated.
