โœฆ Synopsis

It is shown in this paper that two-dimensional interface problems with large jumps in the coefficients can be solved effectively by the piecewise linear finite element method on quasi-uniform grids. This is achieved by combining the full multigrid methodology, the singular function representation of the solution and the extraction formulas for stress intensity factors. The robustness of the algorithm is demonstrated by numerical experiments.

As is well-known, an efficient numerical technique for the solution of Cauchy-type singular integral equations along an open interval consists in approximating the integrals by using appropriate numerical integration rules and appropriately selected collocation points. Without any alterations in thi
