The ESR spectra of a coal sample have been obtained at very high fields (8.837 T. 12.805 T, 15.7 15 T). The linewidth values, as compared to those obtamed at lower field, allow one to assign numerical values to the g factor dispersion and to the spinexchange frequency.
Eight coals from the Argonne Premium Coal Sample Program (APCSP), and an Illinois No. 6 coal from the Illinois Coal Basin Sample Program (ICBSP) have been investigated, employing a novel very high frequency (VHF) e.p.r. spectrometer operating at a microwave frequency of about 95 GHz and a magnetic f
Wyodak and Heatburg subbituminous coals were pyrolysed in-situ in an e.s.r. microwave cavity at -510ยฐC in an evacuated sealed tube. At least two kinds of radicals are detected; first, phenalenyl-like radicals and then, polymerized radicals from the initial ones.
