✦ Synopsis
A multidimensional system consisting of microcolumn size exclusion chromatography coupled on-line with capillary gas chromatography and utilizing mass spectrometry for the rapid identification of polymer additives is described. Applicability of the system was demonstrated for a broad spectrum of commercial polymer products and a wide variety of additives including antioxidants, plasticizers, lubricants, flame retardants, waxes, and UV stabilizers. Advantages of this system include reduced sample preparation time, potential for automation, and minimization of the extraction losses inherent in conventional sample preparation techniques.
