✦ Synopsis

Mass transfer in spherical rigid drops has been studied for the case of a multisolute system with high flux mass transfer, i.e. at high concentrations. Infinite and finite mass-transfer rates in the continuous phase are considered. The system of matrix partial differential equations developed is solved numerically for the cases of (a) infinite and (b) finite mass-transfer coefficients, or for (a) constant and (b) variable interfacial composition. Results are presented and analysed for the influence of solute concentration and component interaction. The solutions presented may be used in the prediction of multicomponent mass transfer in real extraction processes, provided that relevant basic data are available.
