Abstract
A novel multibeam leakyβwave (LW) antenna is demonstrated in this letter.A beam passing through the defected ground structure is radiated at a fixed angle, while one passing through the Dβcomposite right/leftβhanded metasurface moves from backward to forward including the broadside direction. The peculiar properties of both beams are described theoretically and experimentally according to the basic transmission line (TL) theory and Cherenkov radiation principles. By changing the frequency from 3.9 to 4.2 GHz, the angle of one beam changes from β7Β° to +10Β°, whereas that of the other is fixed at 55Β°. Therefore, the proposed multibeam LW antenna is suitable for detecting immovable and movable objects at the same time. Β© 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
