β¦ Synopsis
It is shown that at certain fluid densities the intensity of two polarizations of the second harmonic light scattered by simple fluids is essentially due to a three-body effect. In principle this opens the possibility of direct spectral observation of triplet correlation functions. The order of magnitude of the scattered intensity i estimated end it is concluded that with the present experimental techniques, the effect probably is not observable. These computations are based on a microscopic expression for the second harmonic intensity, which retains multipolar interactions between the particles to ah orders.
