✦ Synopsis
In this article the problem of realizing and implementing multi-gigabit posta!etection filters is addressed. The realization strategy is based upon taking the time-domain specification of the recewed pulse shape and realizing a filter matched to it. The received pulse shape was obtained by modeling the effect of the optical-fiber channel for a NRZ transmitted pulse of duration 100 ps. The effect of fiber chromatic dispersion with fiber length as a parameter is used to estimate the received pulse shape.
Results show the received pulses having full width at half maximum ( M M ) of 109p and 214ps for fiber lengths equaling 80 and 180 km, respective&, at 1.55 Fm. 7he realization strategy yields a network with a response that closely approximates the input pulse shape. A kast-meansquare (LMS) optimization algorithm is used to obtain a closer match, and hence the optimum filter. Final&, we implement the filter structure, resulting from the realization technique, on microstrip capable of operating at data rates up to 10 Gbits/s.
