✦ Synopsis

Two cases of mucinoics cystadenocarcinorna of the pancreas are described in which the diagnosis was made from the material obtained by a computed tomography-guided jine-needle aspiration cytology examination. It is strongly felt that aspiration cytology, when performed under imaging guidance, is sensitive and specific in the diagnosis of mucinous cystadenocarcinoma and allows for a relatively simple yet confident diagnostic interpretation of this uncommon pancreatic tumour. ## BACKGROUND. Tumors of the pancreas associated with extracellular mucin production include mucin-producing ductal adenocarcinoma, mucinous cystic neoplasm (MCN), and intraductal papillary mucinous tumor (IPMT). Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is used as an adjunct to radiologic analysis for the pre

Fine needle aspiration cytology has been increasingly used in recent years to diagnose pancreatic lesions. During a 6 year period, we performed 33 aspiration cytologies of the pancreas. Twenty-one were performed during exploratory laparotomy, seven under the guidance of computed tomography and five
