The new bike is fitted with the latest Masterflex 250 W fuel cell system, operating in combination with new Li-ion batteries supplied by Li-Tec. The latter offer greatly improved intrinsic cell safety, through the use of new electrodes and ceramic separators from Degussa.

In addition to the driving power, additional power can be supplied for vehicle lighting or for cooling transported goods. It has also been possible to dramatically improve the drive technology, allowing its use in a wider range of environments. The vehicle has a modular design, so it can be used in various fields of application, and additional units can be added if required.

The Cargobike is particularly well suited for use in inner-city logistics such as for postal services, urban cleaning and operating plant traffic (airports and industrial facilities). The vehicles are already being sold to industrial customers, and at least 40 Cargobikes will be deployed in four regions in Europe as part of the HyChain-Minitrans project over the next two years.

The fuel cell has been fitted with a new low-pressure security system, called 'Lopes', in which a pressure reducer ensures that the pressure in the hydrogen system never exceeds the ambient pressure. This makes it impossible for hydrogen to leak into the environment. In addition to the high level of safety, Lopes makes for easier system integration, as there is no need for additional safety devices.
