โฆ Synopsis
Much of the earlier literature on quantitative measurements of the human digestive system has been reviewed by Miihlmann ( '00 and '27) and by Kro-man ( '41) and for animals by Crile and Quiring ('40) and Brody ('45). Quantitative data for the digestive system are available for the cat (Latimer, '37), guinea pig (Eaton, '35) and mink (Kainer, '54). Slijper ( '46) lists body lengths and lengths of small and large intestines for 15 domestic and 16 wild European rabbits and for 31 rabbits of unspecified r'ace and sex.
The weight and length of the entire digestive system of 65 normal and 35 heterozygous dwarf rabbits of small sized race X are included in an earlier report (Latimer and Sawin, '55b) and this study will extend the previous study to include a more complete quantitative analysis of the subdivisions of the digestive tube of these 65 normal and 35 dwarf ra%bits. These 35 heterozygous dwarfs will be called simply "dwarfs" throughout this paper.
