Although the anuran pronephros has been the subject of numerous investigations, its entire developmental history has never been worked out in a single species. The average textbook account can readily be noted to have been assembled from studies on a number of forms. The present account, dealing with Ravla pipiems, a species not previously described, 'This work was carried out as part of a thesis siibniitted to the Faculty of a Contribution number 528 from the Zoological Lahouatories, Indiana Unirersity. Indiana University in partial fulfillment of the Doctor of Philosopliy degree.

As a part of studies on the reproduction of laboratory maintained frogs, wild-caught Rana pipiens were ovulated and maintained a t 22-27ยฐC for up to 18 months. Vitellogenic oocytes were periodically staged and counted, and a "maturity index" was calculated to assess the progress of the vitellogenic
