โœฆ Synopsis

From a Frobenius group G = N x 0 ff~ with kernel N and complement 4, one can sometimes construct new balanced incomplete block designs by taking as blocks the translations in N of blocks made from the union of the nontrivial orbits of โ€ข of a and -a in N together with the trivial orbit {0}.

The concept of generalized partially balanced incomplete block (PBIB) design is introduced. Generalized PBIB designs are shown to be useful for the construction of equireplicate balanced block designs, pairwise balanced designs and BIB designs.

## Abstract The necessary conditions for the existence of a balanced incomplete block design on ฯ…โ€‰โ‰ฅโ€‰__k__ points, with index ฮป and block size __k__, are that: For __k__โ€‰=โ€‰8, these conditions are known to be sufficient when ฮปโ€‰=โ€‰1, with 38 possible exceptions, the largest of which is ฯ…โ€‰=โ€‰3,753.
