This bibliometric study is to provide a quantitative analy-tions, and more funding sources than the non-hot papers sis of the authorship of Nature, Science, and Cell from from the three respective periodicals. 1991 to 1993. The source data consist of two sets: The The newsletter Science Watch, published by the Instihot papers in biology and the selective sample of artitute for Scientific Information (ISI) in Philadelphia, listed cles, research articles, reports, or letters from three rethe 10 currently most cited research articles in biology in spective periodicals. The results show that the hot papers have more authors, more institutions participating alternate issues. These articles, called the hot papers, have in the research than the non-hot papers. The results also received a substantially greater number of citations than show that funding sources are significantly related to other articles in similar disciplines during a specified pethe mean number of authors per paper. riod based on citation records compiled by the ISI; this provided a snapshot of current trends in biomedical research.
