If a block-copolymer of styrene and ethylene oxide is mixed with a solvent which exhibits preferential affinity for the polystyrene block, birefringent gels are obtained. The structure of these gels is lamellar and the layers of unsolvated polyethyleneoxide are crystalline. In the present work, the
