Midwives can conduct studies on the effects of alternative therapies. Midwives who incorporate alternative therapies into their practice may not have practice guidelines for the intervention. Thus, the use of alternative therapies often is not documented clearly or retrievable as data. This reviewer recommends the collection of anecdotal findings as well as the initiation of large research studies.
