✦ Synopsis


A tetrasilver(I) phosphonitocavitand was synthesized and structurally characterized. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2 1 =n with a ¼ 15:0151ð13Þ; b ¼ 39:832ð4Þ; c ¼ 15:2479ð14Þ A ˚, b ¼ 95:1000ð2Þ8; V ¼ 9083:3ð14Þ A ˚3 and Z ¼ 4: The structure contains four coplanar silver atoms bridged by four m-Cl and one central trapped m 4 -Cl atoms in the inside of the closing bowl-shaped cavitand. Nonlinear optical properties of this metal-cavitand were investigated. Optical limiting effect with threshold of 0.6 J cm 22 was observed with the laser pulses of 7 ns at 532 nm.
