โœฆ Synopsis

Molecul;rr photoemission spectra of the valence orbitnls of HF, CH~, CH2F, CH2F2, CHF3, and CF4 were taken using the 132.3 eV hfk line of yttrium. Dramatic decreases of relative intensity were observed, in comparison to bighercnergy photoemission spectra, for molecular orbitalc with substantial atomic 2s character, thereby facilirzting orbitai assignments.

Price et al. [I]

have emphasized the importance of the variation with photon ener,? of photoemission cross section ratios as a diagnostic device for establishing the atolmic orbital (AG) composition of molecular orbit& (MO's). They compared cross section ratios obtained by ultraviolet photoemi~sion spectrcscopy (UPS) with those from X-r3y photoemjssion
