Three different long-arm X isochromosomes and an isodicentric X chromosome were examined by in situ hybridization with X-chromosome-specific alpha-satellite probes and by quantitation of Southern blots hybridized with proximal short-arm probes. Each chromosome had a unique pericentromeric structure.
