✦ Synopsis
Cell wall degrading enzymes and oxalic acid have been associated with diseases caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. First attempts to clone S. sclerotiorum cell wall degrading enzymes are presented here. A gene library has been constructed in the lambda insertion vector lambda 1149. The library has been screened differentially with single stranded cDNA synthesized from poly A + RNA isolated either from glucose grown or carboxymethyl-cellulose induced cultures. Six genomic clones have been shown to be specifically induced by carboxymethyl-cellulose. One of them expresses in E. coli to give beta-galactosidase activity. The corresponding RNA size is reported as well as the restriction map of the insert.
