✦ Synopsis

Using a previously derived t h e o r y of cell mass and v o l u m e growth, we show t h a t a cell mass doubling criterion for cell division leads to a progressive deviation of cell volume f r o m an a r b i t r a r y initial value to a value d e p e n d e n t only on t h e metabolic and osmotic param e t e r s of t h e cell a n d its e n v i r o n m e n t .
