Abstract

A simple modification of the Newmark scheme is suggested, which keeps the total energy of mechanical systems constant and thereby enhances the unconditional stability in non‐linear dynamic analysis. Numerical damping, which is formulated on an energy basis, is also introduced and the dissipative character of the algorithm is guaranteed in the non‐linear regime.
