Abstract
An artifact caused by the RF field inhomogeneity in echo‐planar imaging (EPI) with the CPMG sequence is analyzed. A modified sequence is presented, using 90° phase alternation of the π pulses, which suppresses the spurious components of the signal. Thus the phase cycling procedure can be avoided and the π‐pulsed EPI experiment can be reduced to a single shot.
