β¦ Synopsis
Polymer modification is an important area in polymer science . In the present work efforts have been made to modify the commercially available cellulose acetate (39 .9% acetyl) by propylene oxide . The modified polymers thus obtained have been characterized by their softening point, intrinsic viscosity (rl) and tensile strength . Membranes have been cast from these polymers and their transport properties studied . The membranes exhibit higher percent salt rejection with reduced water flux as compared with cellulose acetate membrane. The work was further extended to study the thermal stability of these modified polymers in a dry state . The polymers are found to be fairly stable upto 300 Β°C.
