✦ Synopsis

Book Reviews

a large fraction of the outstanding papers on beam optics.

The author, on several occasions, extolls the virtues of analogue computers for analyzing and optimizing beam optical systems. The attractive feature of the analogue computer is its rapid response to the input from the user. With the increasing availability of conversational access (time-sharing) to large digital computers, it is likely that the latter will represent an equal or superior tool for this purpose.

The book abounds with outstanding illustrations, graphs and tables, and represents a useful guide to those in the field of beam optics.
