โœฆ Synopsis

This paper covers modern developments of the theory of vibration of a shallow catenary, for which both effects of cable geometry and elasticity are taken into consideration. The influence of an important parameter, which is a function of cable geometry and elasticity, on eigenfrequencies and mode shapes of the inplane symmetric mode is fully discussed. This paper also serves as a guide for power engineers to choose an appropriate theory for a certain kind of wind-induced vibration such as aeolian, subspan or galloping.
