โฆ Synopsis
A mathematical model to describe the effects of electrostatic interaction with reaction-generated (\mathrm{pH}) change on the kinetics of immobilized enzyme has been developed to evaluate quantitatively the effect of partitioning of the hydrogen ion in and outside the carrier on overall reaction rate. Numerical results for the overall effectiveness factor were computed for both small and large pore cases. The effects of external mass transfer coefficient and the electrostatic potential on the overall reaction rate were also evaluated. The significance of partitioning coefficient on the proper selection of a carrier for enzyme immobilization is stressed.
