Abstract

The fibre optic transmission systems require a bandwidth of about 25 THz in telecommunications networks, for which it is necessary to resort to dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems. These systems need optical filters to broadcast selectively or not in a given wavelength band.

A new very promising technology for these applications is the photonic crystals with forbidden bandgap (photonic bandgap (PBG)).

In this paper, we propose a model of PBG devices to design DWDM filters on PBG materials. Copyright ยฉ 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

## Abstract The use of defected ground structures (DGSs) is being intensively explored by microwave filter designers. DGSs are one possible implementation of a 1D photonic band gap (1Dโ€PBG), in which some defect structures are patterned on the ground plane of a microstrip circuit. In this paper, th

The results from the 60-m-wide microstrip lines suggest that maintaining a constant line width so that the probe pad structure is indistinguishable from the transmission line, if possible, is best. This allows direct probing of the

A new algorithm, based on geometrical parameterization and finite element method is presented for the optimization of microwave devices. Using geometrical parameterization, the field quantities are expressed as a polynomial in design parameters. Automatic differentiation is used for calculation of h
