β¦ Synopsis
three-parameter model is introduced to describe the residence time distribution of the gas phase in the liquid circulation regime of bubble columns. Two of the three parameters are obtained from data of the time-averaged flow field. The third parameter, which originates in the variance of the residence time distribution, is shown to be constant for given configurations. The model is verified by comparison to experimental data. INTRODUCl3ON (ii) Up to now, measurements of residence time density distributions (RTDs) of the gas phase in bubble columns have usually been evaluated by applying the axial dispersion model Cl, 23. This model [3] assumes plug flow with a superimposed diffusive type of axial mixing. The measurement data which define the model parameters are the mean value and the variance of the RTD.
