โœฆ Synopsis

A new multilayer solar cell has recently been introduced. This cell requires only top and bottom electrical contact. Internal feedback paths within this multilayer cell ensure the addition of partial photogenerated currents collected at individual pn junctions. An extended EbersยฑMoll model was developed, which turned out to be a convenient tool for an examination of the physical parameters of the cell and for the optimisation of its internal structure. The currentยฑvoltage characteristics of ยฏoating junction solar cells are calculated and a comparison with other multilayer solar cell structures presented.

A parallel multijunction approach appears promising as a way of producing high-performance polycrystalline thin-film silicon solar cells by deposition onto inexpensive glass superstrates. Recent independent analyses have confirmed some of the claimed advantages for this approach. However, both the s

This approach to a thin-ยฎlm Si solar cell combines theoretical analysis, growth of thin-ยฎlm crystalline Si (c-Si) and deposition of amorphous Si (a-Si:H) to form the heterojunction. The PC-1D model predicts a potential eciency of 416% for an Si thickness of 10 "m. Liquid phase growth (LPG) of the ba
