โœฆ Synopsis

From the point of view of their construction, operation and performance, devices are studied within the appropriate, specialist disciplines of electrical engineering, j?uids includingfhiidpower, mechanics and thermodynamics. The paper develops ageneral treatment of devices which leads to their mathematical description as components of systems. The treatment is based on the principles of conservation of energy and power, and it begins with consideration of spontaneous processes. The description of particular kinds of devices which are capable of interaction with their environment in terms of power carrying external and thermal energy or of influence, is obtained on the basis of assumptions regarding the capacities of energy stores.
