โœฆ Synopsis

The growing size of inter-connected power systems intensifies the need for transient stability studies. On the other hand, stability analysis of a large power system requires long computing time.

Reduction of the computing time has been achieved in different ways. One of the common methods of reducing the computing time of stability analysis is the application of equivalents for coherent generators. In this paper a new model for coherent generators is presented. Implementation of this equivalent model reduces the number of generators, busbars and inter-connecting transmission lines of the system and consequently reduces the required computing time for stability study.

The validity and accuracy of the method is shown by the comparison of the results with the results of detailed stability analysis in which generators have been modelled with a fifth-order Park's equation and AVR and governor controllers have been included.
