This paper establishes that the profit-seeking activities of private intermediaries can ensure Pareto efficiency in the standard pure-exchange monetary overlapping generations economy without the need for government monetary or fiscal policy intervention. Moreover, these profit-seeking activities ar

β¦ Synopsis
This paper provides an introduction to numerical simulation of overlapping generations models with perfect foresight and ΓΏnite lifetimes. The exposition presents the fundamental characteristics of this class of problems, and GAMS programs illustrate how models can be formulated in applied research using the complementarity framework. Issues addressed in the paper include how to calibrate to baseyear data, and how to represent international trade, bequests, government tax and expenditure policies, and a labor/leisure choice with endogenous retirement.

This paper investigates the global dynamics of a two-dimensional Diamond-type overlapping generations model extended to allow for government intervention. Using a singular perturbation method, we identify conditions under which transverse homoclinic points to the golden rule steady state are generat
Many models have been proposed for spatial pattern formation in embryology and analyzed for the standard case of zero-flux boundary conditions. However, relatively little attention has been paid to the role of boundary conditions on the form of the final pattern. Here we investigate numerically, the
