Abstract

This article presents and compares the basic analytical expressions currently used to evaluate the probe impedance in coaxial‐fed microstrip patches. These expressions belong essentially to two different families, namely the quasi‐static models and the “two‐infinite‐parallel‐plates” models. Particular attention is paid to the theoretical foundations of every model. The qualities of each family are ascertained by comparing their predictions to experimental results and to rigorous numerical results obtained using a full‐wave numerical model. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
