A new unitary optical mode converter for transforming Hermite-Gaussian beams into Laguerre-Gaussian beams is proposed, which is made up of gradient index medium. Being unitary cylinder with only two reflecting surfaces, the mode converter is easily adjusted and has very low reflecting loss.
