✦ Synopsis

waveguides using DNG media, were put in evidence. The analysis was firstly focused on DNG H-guides. It was shown that unusual features, like anomalous dispersion, mode bifurcation, and the existence of super-slow modes, were achieved. Double-slab DNG/DPS H-guides were also analyzed and it was seen that their behavior is dictated by the dispersion characteristics of the thicker slab. Finally, we have shown the existence of both co-directional and contradirectional mode coupling in DNG/DPS H-guide directional couplers. Potential applications of the DNG/DPS H-guide directional coupler in the design of new devices are anticipated.

## Abstract In this paper, the square waveguide with quadruple corner‐cut ridges is analyzed using the hybrid mode‐matching boundary‐element method. Because of its symmetry, only a quarter of its cross‐section needs to be considered and it is then divided into three regions. The electromagnetic fie
