Abstract

This paper deals with modal criteria allowing optimization of structures through active structural acoustic control (ASAC) based on the independent modal strategy control (IMSC). The aim of the paper is to propose efficient criteria allowing to process optimization of structures by determining the most important modes to control considering only the location of the excitation on the structure. A generalized modal synthesis is used to study the coupled fluid–structure system. Modal criteria are proposed in order to determine the best choice for the controlled modes used in IMSC method. The way the ASAC will be applied is not discussed in the paper. Numerical simulations are computed to show the efficiency of the method, considering a simple vibroacoustic structure. Controlling the volume velocity of a plate has previously been shown to be a good strategy to reduce its overall sound radiation. Although distributed volume velocity sensors have been developed they have some inherent limitations, particularly the fact that they cannot measure whole-body motion whi

In experimental studies of structural behaviour, it is often desirable, even necessary, to perform tests on a test structure from its undamaged state, through its damaged states, and finally to failure. The fact that experiments of this type are not often done primarily because of its prohibitive co

The topic of structural damage identification is-for good reasons-of topical concern in structural dynamics. Indeed the theme of the 1997 International Modal Analysis Conference (IMAC) is structural damage assessment. The majority of research studies attribute the basic ideas to Cawley and Adams [1]
