✦ Synopsis

Abstract

A number of compounds that contain the Bο£ΏN dative bond have been found to exhibit intriguing physiological activities. Although there is no proven mechanism for this activity, one hypothesis is that some form of borane transfer reaction occurs. In this scenario, the Bο£ΏN dative bond within the small molecule, putative pharmacore breaks, and the borane forms a new dative bond with a Lewis base site on some critical protein. For this hypothesis to be investigated further from a computational perspective, an improved MM3 parameter set for tetravalent Bο£Ώtetravalent N bonds has been developed and is reported here. The rotational spectrum of HCCCN-SO 3 has been observed using Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. The vibrationally averaged structure is that of a symmetric top, with the HCCCN axis along the C 3 axis of the SO 3 , and the nitrogen end near the sulfur. The N-S bond length is 2.567(13) Γ…, whic

## Abstract The 1992 version of MM3 was largely used for modeling mono‐, di‐, and trisaccharides. In later versions of MM3 improvements were made in some parameters that may be important for carbohydrates. This corrected MM3 force field is part of the Tinker package, freely available (as its 4.1 ve
