✦ Synopsis
Apparatus and techniques are described which are capable of producing reliable controlled-environment data for low speed stick-slip friction.
Such data have demonstrated their value in the study of various boundary friction and lubrication problems.
Experiments performed with the original apparatus indicated that even in the presence of liquid metals, the environment integrity was of primary importance to friction and wear behaviour.

## Abstract According to the density functional theory calculations, the X···H···N (XN, O) intramolecular bifurcated (three‐centered) hydrogen bond with one hydrogen donor and two hydrogen acceptors causes a significant decrease of the ^1h^__J__(N,H) and ^2h^__J__(N,N) coupling constants across th
