Catalytic reduction (HZ, PtO -EtOH) of indoloquinones 7 affords indoloquinones 6. Dtpending on their leaving group ability one or both substitucnts X and Y can be eliminated. Evidence is provided, on carrying out the reduction reactions in EtOD, for the intermediacy of quinone methides 10, 12 and/or 13 and iminium derivatives 14. __
