โฆ Synopsis
*** This is one of those really great feel good anthologies that is heartwarming, sweet, and just a superb read for sitting cozily by the fire!! --- Marilyn, for www.historicalromancewriters.com *** In Lynsay Sands' "The Fairy Godmother", Odel stares at the coffin of her newly-deceased father and realizes she is not grieving. She has lived a loveless existence until now, so when her aunt Matilda - her dead aunt Matilda - announces she will make her happy and married, Odel can't help but be skeptical. Soon enough, Odel's home is filled with would-be suitors who behave very strangely, and one man, Michelle, who is kind and selfless, and whose attraction to Odel is very much reciprocated. Odel fears that Michelle, famous for killing a witch, will kill her aunt if he finds out the truth. Catherine has come home to Woodbridge, Vermont, in Lisa Cach's "A Midnight Clear," and finds that after all the glitz and glamour of life with her aunt, she may not fit in this small town, after all. Her suitor, the pompous Mr. Rose (think Cecil Vyse in A Room with a View, has followed her, but he continually belittles Woodbridge and its inhabitants, and in doing so, the real charm of her hometown - and especially of shopkeeper Will Goodman - becomes all the more apparent to Catherine. As Catherine lets go of her vanity and genuinely sees things and people for what they are, Will wonders if this sophisticated beauty could ever see him favorably, when the elegant Mr. Rose is after her hand. Amy Elizabeth Saunders's "Angels We Have Heard" introduces us to Rose Shanahan and her children, Daniel and Kate, as they are being thrown out of their tiny, cold shack near the mine where they live since the death of Rose's husband, James. To make matters worse, Danny steals from mine owner Josh Asher and gets caught, but instead of letting Danny be thrown in jail, Josh hires both Danny and Rose as household help. Josh, who doesn't celebrate Christmas since the death of his wife and baby, finds himself warming to Rose and her children, and contemplating a future with them. In Stobie Piels' "Here Comes Santa Claus," two of Santa's helpers must find a soul in need where there doesn't seem to be any trouble. Ariana and Taran, rescued from death by Saint Nicholas himself, are constantly at odds, so much that their boss sends them back to the mortal realm on their mission, with the warning that if they don't succeed, they will each be sent back to their original era.
