✦ Synopsis

The data on the diamagnetism of carbons are reviewed. The thermal variation of the susceptibility is well represented by the relation: 2 = x0 + -3-K0 (1 -eveiT) in which zO, K. and 8 are parameters. The values and the meaning of these parameters are discussed. A method is given for the mathematical representation of the experimental data f = f (1 /I'), taking into account two imperative conditions: the parameters must_ be determined by using the graph f =f (1 /T) when T< 400°K andtheexpression-log[ l-3??)]= * r must be a straight line when the left member is plotted vs. 1 IT. These conditions lead to a Revision of the values of the parameters previously published and thus to a re-evaluation of their meaning.
